Adapting: Lord of the Flies and how to make a living from comics
I denne VAF Session dykker Aimée de Jongh dybt ned i arbejdsprocessen bag sin seneste grafiske roman, Fluernes Herre.
Aimée var den første grafisk romanforfatter, der lavede en tegneserieadaption af den litterære klassiker fra 1954, og hun fik støttet fra både familie og et forlag i London. I foredraget forklarer hun hvert trin på rejsen, fra den første pitch, til at bearbejde teksterne til de første sider hun skitserede til tegneserien og så til sidst, hvordan det føltes at se det fysiske produkt på hylderne i butikker. Afslutningsvis deler Aimée indsigter, tips og tricks i forhold til pitching, det at samarbejde med forlag, og hvordan man bedst henvender sig til internationale forlag med sin første tegneserie.

In this lecture, Aimée de Jongh will dive deep into the work process of her latest graphic novel, Lord of the Flies.
Aimée was the first graphic novel author to make a comic adaptation of the 1954 literary classic, supported by the author's family and publishing house in London. She will explain every step of the journey, from the first pitch, to adapting the texts into comic pages, to seeing the physical product arrive in stores. Finally, Aimée will share some insights on pitching, working with publishers, and what the best way is to approach international publishers for your first comic.

About Aimée
Aimée de Jongh (she/her) is an award-winning graphic novel author and animator from the Netherlands. Her books are currently published in more than 30 countries. With roots in the Dutch-Indies, history, migration and human relations are recurring topics in her work.
Aimée's career in comics took off with the daily strip Snippers for a Dutch newspaper. After that, she published 5 graphic novels which won international awards, including the Japan International Manga Award and three Eisner nominations in the United States. Aimée's most well known graphic novels are Days of Sand (2021) and Lord of the Flies (2024). She published short comics in the magazines Spirou, Métal Hurlant and Fluide Glacial.
Aimée was a guest teacher at the Graphic Storytelling department at TAW.
